Parents Who Host

Did you know Indiana has a Social Host Law?

¨ It is a Class B misdemeanor for a person to recklessly, knowingly, or intentionally sell, barter, exchange, provide, or furnish an alcoholic beverage to a minor.

¨ It is a Class A misdemeanor if the person has a prior unrelated conviction under this section; and

¨ It is a Class D FELONY if the consumption, ingestion, or use of the alcoholic beverage is the proximate cause of the serious bodily injury or death of any person.

You can face a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

You can be sued if you give alcohol to anyone under 21 and they, in turn, hurt someone, hurt themselves or damage property.

Officers can remove personal property, money or alcohol used in conjunction with the offense.
